Nailed, tagged, branded and trussed.
Somebody must've thought this telephone pole might try to escape.
It's not as though it hasn't been doing it's job; not only has it
been supporting the wires and cables to carry thousands
of messages, but it's served as a community bulletin board,
holding signs for everything from yard sales and lost pets
to posters for missing children.
Oh, yeah, I forgot about this.
Yay! Once again you find art in places other people walk past without a second glance.
ReplyDeleteThese are wonderful images, Speedway.
This reminds me of the Wish Tree in Scotland (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wish_Tree) with people hammering in pennies until every inch was covered.
ReplyDeleteWe have all seen the telephone poles, abused/used for years, but your photo gives a great perspective... like a fingerprint, each is unique. Love the layers of history in this top shot.

Thank you, Dive. I've been trying to make a habit of looking even closer when I'm thinking, "I've got nuthin' here." Lotsa times there's nuthin' there, others I get a trussed up 'phone pole.
ReplyDeleteI looked at the Wishing Tree, Scout. It seems odd, touching testimony to hope.
There are telephone poles all over that show interesting combinations on tacks staples and nails, enough I could make a book. In fact, it may make interesting stories - following up the lost dog, the yard sale and sadly, the missing children.
