Everything's All New Again

After a winter that was warmer than usual,
we do have Spring. The trees are blooming, delicate shades
of green have followed pale flowers.
Tulips and daffodils have raised their friendly heads
to greet the sun. At the Coke Field the water in the
creek seems bright as newly cut diamonds
as it plays over the sand and stones in the creek bed.

It's a welcome cycle, one that seems to give all of us
another opportunity to achieve our dreams,
to nuture and watch over our plans.

Warning: Helicopter and Plane

There's no accounting for the local vernacular
used to identify many items.
The green seed pods are known as "helicopters"
because of the whirling paths they take
as they fall  to the ground from the maple trees,
while Dive of Small Glass Planet has told me
that in England, the tree they call a Plane,
we know as the American Sycamore.

Hydrant

The fire hydrant seemed to have its own little shed.
It serves as added protection for a hi-rise apartment
in downtown Indianapolis.

Pink, Green, Maroon and Black

I look forward to seeing these little pink flowers.
Each spring their pale color works against the maroon
leaves. Here, they contrast with the fresh green leaves
of the neighboring hedge, while below the maroon leaves
pal up with the black limbs, allowing the pink flowers
to stand out. Everybody's happy.

Textured Tuesday

An old telephone pole had been replaced recently,
its cut sections left in a pile near the street
for pick-up at a later date.
Looking closely at its remains, one can see
the story of both its work-life
and the many years before it was cut down.

I Love You, Funny Face

I fell in love with this endearing yard ornament
when I first saw it several years ago.
Its expression is unique. It can't possibly scare anyone.
This past winter, I didn't find it at its usual post and
finally located its head lying in a pile of leaves
not far from its neck. I put it back together
then walked on. Happily, it so far
remains as sentry beneath the tree, gazing goofily
at passing time and entertaining me.

At Angles

There are a couple little stores in the shopping center
that sell clothes meant for young women. I frequently find
the styles interesting. They are the very much cheaper
less expensive versions of more current modes,
so I am at a loss as to whether the styles are one step
removed from "street fashion," three or four
income levels from "au courant" designers.
or just the whole thing come full circle.

Around the corner from the flowing, undulating stripes,
I saw these triangles and wedges, shadows cast on the sidewalk along with a reflection from the store window.
I tried to crop the image without the bits of yellow
and red, but they seemed to add to the composition.
I suppose when they it initially caught my eye,
the color played a part in it, so the
colored bits remain.

Confession: I did use Photoshop to remove a couple
of the more distracting/offensive spots on the
sidewalk.
