October Theme Day: Movement

Movement.
Did you see it? No?
Well, stick around a bit.

This sound sculpture, Prairie, by Shawn Decker
was designed to evoke a grassland, with sounds
of birds, insects, and tree frogs peeping and chirping.
The rods bend and vibrate from time to time,
as though a late summer grasshopper has landed
on their stems. The sounds are overlapping,
twenty movements controlled by a computer
installed under the window. The chirps and swaying
are created by cell phone speakers and vibration
motors on each of the brass stems.
Sit a while, watch and listen, and the piece
will take you to a wide open field, maybe even
allow you to imagine that the brass rods
smell of  grasses on a warm day.

On the first day of each month, the members of
the City Daily Photo blog portal use a scene
from their cities to describe a theme.
Today's theme was/is Movement.
I'm a city girl, so my "movement" is a bunch
of brass rods, some of which bounce and vibrate
as though a bird has alit on their stems.

October Theme Day: Details

I followed the Central Canal to the end of its journey at the White River.
There, landscape architects had constructed a water feature/
waterfall that allowed the water to be aerated as it fell towards the river.
I like to stand on the walkway to watch the water sparkle and
foam as it tumbles over the walls. Where it falls towards the river,
sediment, moss and lichen have formed, creating a beautiful
pallet of colors,  green and golden, muted and bright.

On the first day of each month, the photographers
who form the City Daily Photo portal, have a theme day.
The theme for October is Details. To see how others
have interpreted the theme, just click on the above link

'Tis the Season

The neighborhood is beginning to break out in Halloween decorations.
In this yard, St. Francis, the protector of little animals, looks to be a mite
pissed that his caretakers have dressed him in a pumpkin suit.
Ol' Frank looks like he wants nuthin' better than to chunk that punkin'
and get back to pettin' bunnies and comforting doves.

The little bird whispering in his ear is telling Frank he's a real saint
for putting up with that orange strait jacket.

Apples in the Rain

It was a chilly, rainy day when I saw this beautiful apple growing on a tree.
The rain was dripping off the fruit. It was a picture asking to be taken.
I was surprised to see the large apples shared the tree with a lot
of much smaller fruit. I looked but could not find a second tree.

I can only assume that a cutting of the one type of apple
was grafted onto a tree of a different type, though same species.
Really, I have no idea other than that.

Theme Day: Mystery Object

Hmmm, theme day comin' up. Topic: Mystery Object.
Shall I post something I find to be mysterious?
Or just enlarge an image until it's unrecognizable?

Here is it's info from a collectors' website:
"The No. 42 is a double petticoat type, with a long, smooth leakage path
on the inner petticoat. It sits close to the cross-arm, thus giving the pin protection against rain splash. Its threads are accurately formed
for a tight grip on the pin. The wire groove is a modern square type shown in Spec. 1-A-33 of the Association of American Railroads, and is accepted as standard for most telephone construction."

Hell, I just think they're pretty and have been fascinated by them
since childhood, when I first noticed them atop telephone poles.
Now I have three of my very own.
