Textured Tu ... er, Wednesday

Last week, I was walking from City Market to the Historical Society building, from one side of the downtown area to the other. I'm always looking for pictures and it bothers me to know that just as I find one,
I'm probably missing three or four even better ones. So...

...as I'm checking out the manhole cover,
was I overlooking something else?
If so, maybe I'll find it next week.

Splendidly grody textures, Speedway. Is that a manhole or is it some strange musical instrument?
Do you blow in the hole int the top photo and cover the other holes with your fingers?

You mean a bass sidewalk flute? Yeah, we got 'em all over the place. Gives an entirely new dimension to street music. Like bass guitar, though, there aren't many gigs for bass sidewalk flautists.

On second thought maybe it's less a flute than it is a bass sidwalk kazoo. Maybe we could get PDQ Bach to write a piece for it

Hee hee hee. I think it should be done.

And given the shape of the instrument, it could only play in a flat key.
