Rainy Friday

Amid a patch of dried, black echinacea, are a few that bloomed
after their brethren had succumbed to the summer heat.

I took a slightly different path to the convenience store,
only about a quarter mile from home. The different route
got me this picture of a cat, wiling away the afternoon
watching the leaves dance in the afternoon breeze.

And then there were sodden roses, their bright pink color
set off against the dark green leaves and red stems.

Even in the grey forest of dead stems you manage to find colour, Speedway … albeit a slightly droopy and waterlogged pink, but colour nonetheless.

Oh, and don't cheat by posting cat photos! Especially not photos of cats that look like my sadly missed mog, Kate. I actually went "Aaaah" out loud before I caught myself.

I miss my last kitty, too, whose name was Kayde, BTW. She came to me the same night I had to have my previous cat put down, due to old age. Murphy was almost 20, then, and his replacement was a tiny, flea-bitten tortie who stayed with me until she, too, lost the battle with age. I woke up the next morning with an emptiness to my day because, for the first time in about 40 years, I woke up with neither cat nor man to look after.

The next night, a nearby shelter had a young woman drop off a filthy dirty, nervous little beast, skinny with the look of a jaguar not pampered house kitty. It's almost 2 years later and I guess Taylor has a home. She's still fucked up, but WTH, aren't we all, at some point.

We certainly are.
I couldn't stand losing another cat (and I've never wanted a man to look after) so I have next door's three moggies living in my house most of the time and let him pay the vet's bills and buy the cat food.
It works for me.

Hello Sara

The CDP portal roared back into life this week.
Have you checked to see that your blog is listed?
Who else covers your town, or your region?

Voting for the December Theme Day poll commences Thursday 25th October - this Thursday!
Don\'t forget, the Theme Day on 1st November is \'The Water\'s edge.
Now, how to capture the tension on the edge of the water as a dragonfly alights?

Thank you, Julie. I checked the first time I was aware of it's existence and, yes, it's there. No one else covers my town, as far as I know. Some time back, I was looking for other participants, but they appeared to have quit, for whatever reason.
